There are two parts of the application:
1. Complete the information below and click 1. Submit Information.
2. Upload your IRS Tax Determination Letter below and click 2. Upload IRS Letter.

Upon completion of the two parts, an email will be sent to the contact listed on the application with notification of your organization's acceptance, along with login instructions to update your organization's web page, or notification that your organization was not accepted. If the email is not received within two weeks, please contact The EQUUS Foundation.

Do not proceed to the application unless you can certify that your organization meets all our eligibility criteria and you have your organization's IRS Tax Determination Letter available as an Acrobat (.pdf) file.

carrots4acause is a network of organizations located in the United States that are dedicated to building a more sustainable environment for horses and for the people whose lives they are benefiting.

The network includes charities, schools, government agencies, and other nonprofit organizations.

The listing is provided free of charge to eligible organizations to help educate visitors about their mission and programs, recruit volunteers, and secure essential products and services.

ELIGIBILITY

These organizations provide programs that:

• Serve the public involving horses, including horsemanship programs, therapeutic riding and equine-assisted activities for individuals with physical, emotional, behavioral, and learning disabilities, life-threatening or other serious illnesses, and underserved, economically-disadvantaged and "at-risk" youth across the United States.

• Foster horse health and welfare, including horse rescue, rehabilitation, adoption, foster care and retirement programs, equine ambulance services as well as veterinary education and research.

• Promote the equestrian sport, including funding for scholarships, awards, land conservation, youth programs, public education programs, and relief to equestrians suffering from life threatening illness, catastrophic accidents or injuries.

To be accepted as a carrots4acause charity, the charity certifies that:

• The charity is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) as tax-exempt under 26 U.S.C. 501(c)(3) to which contributions are tax deductible pursuant to 26 U.S.C. 170(c)(2) and has provided a copy of its most recent IRS determination letter for public viewing, and the organization is not a private foundation.

• The charity provides or conducts real services, benefits, assistance or program activities related to horse welfare in the United States

• The charity prepares and submits to the IRS a complete copy of the organization's IRS Form 990 or certified that the organization is not required to submit an IRS Form 990.

• The charity has an active and responsible governing body, whose members have no material conflict of interest and a majority of which serve without compensation, to direct the organization.

• The charity effectively uses the funds contributed for its announced purposes.

• The charity conducts publicity and promotional activities based upon its actual program and operations, and that these activities are truthful and non-deceptive, include all material facts, and make no exaggerated or misleading claims.

• The charity has operated as a 501(c)(3) tax exempt public charity for at least one full operating year,
